After our lunch at the Grand, we headed off to Disney's MGM Studios. We had to catch a bus from our resort to take us over there. We waited about 10 minutes for the bus, and by 1:00 we were inside the park!! Of course, having gotten up so early that morning, there were a few cranky pants in our family....especially when you add in the heat! We knew we weren't going to spend much time at MGM because we had dinner reservations at 7:30. Also, there aren't a whole lot of rides that we really enjoy at this park, so we had a general plan of the rides we wanted to do, and just took our time getting them done.
Right off, Bill and Emyley (yes, Emyley) rode the Tower of Terror! For those who don't know, it is a ride where you sit in an elevator and get dropped many stories. The catch is, you don't ever know how many stories or how many times you will get dropped. Syd, Hayley and I headed to the gift shop at the exit of the ride to wait for them. They were able to walk right on and joined us after about 15 minutes. The look on Em's face was priceless!!! She has vowed NEVER to ride that again, EVER! ;o) She also says that they were dropped 8 times! Actually, it was only 3! LOL!We were able to fit in a few more rides/attractions: Star Tours, Muppet Vision 3D, the Backlot Tour and a very small snippet of the High School Musical Pep Rally. The longest wait we had here was for the Backlot tour, and it was about 15-20 minutes. With the heat, it felt a lot longer. The rest of the time we just walked around and checked out the scenery. We walked through New York,
spent some time with the singing umbrella and let the girls visit with Herbie!
After about 3 1/2 hours, we were ready to go get freshened up and rest a bit for dinner. We caught the bus back to our resort, which we waited about 10-15 minutes for.
There were a couple of unexpected things during our short time at this park:
First, Bill lost his cell phone right off the bat at Tower of Terror! No kidding! He didn't realize it until we were on Star Tours (his favorite ride!), and was unable to enjoy the whole ride. I was sick to death about it after that. We decided to visit Lost and Found before we left, with no high expectations of finding it again. When we left, we went by there, they asked Bill to describe the phone, and then brought it right out to him! Seriously! We definitely felt the Disney magic was with us then! ;o)
Secondly, it rained on us! It started about half an hour before we had decided to leave. It was actually a very refreshing light rain that cooled us down! The huge downpour and thunder held off until we reached the covered area to wait for our bus back to our resort. And yes, we had packed ponchos, but no, we didn't have them with us! LOL! The girls thought it was treat to actually be out in the rain....something they don't normally get to do!
We didn't get to everything on our list....the Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show because we were simply dragging too much and too tired to go on. Also, another of Bill's favorite rides, the Rock 'N Roller Coaster was closed down. All-in-all it was a good time, though!
